Staff Feature: Julian Schmitt, Property Tax Analyst

We recently had the opportunity to sit down with one of our staff members, Julian, who is a Property Tax Analyst. Take a look at his interview below!

How did you hear about SER?

I heard about SER as a student attending Illinois State University for a degree in Sustainable and Renewable Energy. While choosing my classes, I had heard about Dave and was hoping to take his course. Although I was unable to, I watched Dave speak at both the Illinois Renewable Energy Conference and my TEC 360 Capstone class. I researched the company after seeing the SER booth at the conference and connecting with Dave on LinkedIn.

What is your current role and main responsibilities?

I am currently a Property Tax Analyst at SER. My main responsibility is to complete property tax analyses when we begin work on a new project. I collect data from the client and county for the parcels included in the project. Additionally, I work on researching historical property tax within Illinois and each state’s funding process for school districts.

Outside of work what are you passionate about? What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I am passionate about family, music, and food. In my free time I enjoy playing tennis, biking, watching live music, and spending time with my friends and family. I enjoy traveling and trying new food and experiences wherever I go. I also love to bake whenever I get the chance.

What are you most excited about in the future of your role and the company as a whole?

I am most excited about expanding my industry knowledge in my role. My role currently gives me a lot of opportunities to learn, assist colleagues in other areas, and attend educational events. I am thrilled to be attending the ACP Siting and Permitting Conference this April. Additionally, I am eager to see the company continue to expand its scope into more states around the country.

What is something people might be surprised to learn about you?

People might be surprised to learn that I have visited two Hawaiian Islands.
